Travel and Visa
Traveling to Sri Lanka
The primary international airport in Sri Lanka is Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) at Katunayake, 30km north of Colombo. It is connected to Colombo city center via expressway (20 minutes travel time).
Bandaranaike International Airport is served by several international airlines, with many direct flights from Europe, the Middle-East and Asia.
For your particular travel arrangements to and from Colombo, please consult your local travel agent.
Visa requirements
Foreign travellers need a visa to enter Sri Lanka. You can get a short-stay visa online via the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Please consult your local travel agent on visa requirements for your particular country; nationals of the republics of Singapore, Maldives, and Seychelles are exempt from ETA.
An ETA is issued for a maximum of thirty (30) days and can be extended up to six months.
Please note that visa fees and ETA processing fees apply.
Obtaining your ETA
The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) can be obtained “without passport copies, documents or photographs” and does not need to be endorsed on a passport.
Travellers can apply for ETA online. It is also possible to obtain the ETA on arrival; however, we advise applying online to avoid delays frequent at airports and other ports of entry.
We advise that you carry a copy of your ETA approval notice with you. Upon arrival, produce your passport to the immigration officer at the port of entry to obtain the necessary clearance.
