12th IIBCC, Aalborg, Denmark, 2010
21-24 September 2010, the IIBCC coference visited Scandinavien. The host city of the IIBCC conference 2010 was the city of Aalborg, situate in the region of Northern Jutland in Denmark.
The conference was hosted as a joint effort by Aalborg University and the European fibre-cement manufacturer Cembrit, with a team lead by Mr. Eigil Sorensen, Aalborg University, and Mr. Henning Thygesen, Cembrit.
The conference made a record-high number of participants in recent years with 192 show-ups and .
Again the conference program included 26 high quality papers, including the honoured guest-speaker Prof. Arnon Bentur, Technion, Israel. The conference gala-dinner took place in the Utzon centre, build by the family to the danish architect Jorgen Utzon. Before the dinner the participants had a look into Aalborgs history through a city-stroll with guides and performining artists.
This year the Moslemi Excellence Award was presented to Mr. Gustavo Tonoli, and his Supervisor Prof. Holmer Savastano Jr., both from Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil

2010 GUEST-SPEAKER: PROFESSOR ARNON BENTUR
Prof. Arnon Bentur is Professor of Civil Engineering at the Technion and holder of the Edwards Chair in Engineering. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
He has earned his B.Sc (Suma Cum Laude) and M.Sc in Civil Engineering and D.Sc in Materials Engineering (1973), all from the Technion. He held research and teaching positions in Universities in North America: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1975-1978), Purdue University in Indiana (1982-1984) and University of British Columbia in Canada (1987/8, 1994/5). He served as a Research Manager at Grace Performance Chemicals (2003-2005) in Cambridge MA, USA.
Prof. Bentur’s field of scientific expertise is construction materials where he has published 120 research papers in refereed journals and 9 authored and edited books. He has contributed significantly in the areas of microstructural control & properties of cementitious systems, cementitious composites, high performance concretes, durability & long term performance of construction materials and utilization of wastes & by-products in construction. He is considered an international leading expert in these fields.
Prof. Arnon Bentur has been serving as a co-editor and member of the editorial board of several international journals and book series and is the President of the International Union of Research and Testing Laboratories in Materials and Structures (RILEM). He has been elected as Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, American Concrete Institute and RILEM.
Prof. Bentur is also very active in the Israeli construction industry, in a variety of technical and public activities. He was a member of numerous standartization committees within the framework of the Israel Standards Institute and he has been continuously involved with the industry through applied research and other activities to enhance technological innovation.
